Drawing much of his inspiration from the early California Impressionists, Dave’s style is
a blend of impressionism and realism. Color, light and atmosphere all play a vital role in
his work as he seeks to capture directly these beautiful and elusive moments in nature. To
accomplish this, each studio painting begins in the field with a plein air study. This direct
approach to capturing color and light allows him to achieve a realism unattainable through
photographic studies alone. “Painting outdoors”, Dave adds, “brings an intimacy with the subject you couldn’t achieve in a studio, allowing you to ‘speak’ both expertly and emotionally
in the final painting.”
Dave’s passion for painting has led to a number of prestigious awards including the Grand<
Teton National Park Purchase Award at Arts for the Parks 2000 and the Award of Excellence
at the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters 2003 show. He was also named one of Southwest
Art Magazine’s “Artists to Watch” in December 2003 and is a signature member of the
Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters.
I'm looking forward to this years show and have included the latest information on my blog: http://www.dasanti.com/resources/blog
