"Sunny Wildflowers"
12"x16", pastel on board
Gallery Price: $750
Born and raised in a smal town of Waco,Texas, I remember many happy car trips to the “country” 30 miles north to Clifton as a child with my parents. I looked forward to summers helping on my uncles’ and grandparents’ farms, playing on the swings in the summer breezes, climbing up a ladder in the barn and jumping on the hay below; seeing and hearing sights and sounds and spaces so different from the city, riding the horse (my cousins would laugh when I asked my aunt to put the “seat” on the horse) then coming home again to my own backyard for imagining about cowboys and indians, riding my own imaginary horse in scenes I had seen in cowboy movies. Quite an adventure for a city kid!
I first applied pencil to paper to express and dream with…in school it was called “doodling”! I had a few occasions to show my art in classes which encouraged me to continue. Then I was accepted into a correspondent advertising art course which I finished while still in high school…moving on to earn a BA and MFA from University of North Texas…teaching art in Dallas and at GooseBay Air Force Base in Labrador…then working at Los Alamos Laboratory in drafting and graphics, making charicatures of scientists and serious projection drawings used for lobbying congress in Washington…retiring early to Santa Fe, the mecca of 20th century art to explore my attempts at colorist expressions of this spacious, light-filled, high-altitude setting!
Jane shows her art at her home-studio during the Eldorado Art Studio Tour every year....her main theme in all her work is a continuing tribute to a quote that still rings true today about our country's national parks and roadsides and long-range thinking: "Wildness is a Necessity" said John Muir. Sunflowers, asters and all the colorful naturals growing along roadsides and parks add to the charm of New Mexico and she loves the colors they provide in her painting. Her studio is open year round by appointment.
Jane's watercolors, oils and pastels will be on view at Fisher Gallery in Albuquerque this August thru September, titled "A Show of Her Own".
