Rachel Herrera was born just outside of Denver Colorado and has been painting in Fort Collins since 1998.
Herrera attended Colorado State University in 1999, majoring in fine art. In the summer of 2001, she went abroad to study at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy where she had basic classical training in the figure.
Rachel creates compositions in the classical tradition inspired by the human form and objects found in everyday life. Painting mostly from life, she focuses on the quality of light and its relationship to an object or form. She has taken several workshops from local and national artists including David Leffel, Ron Hicks, Ken Valastro, and Daniel Edmondson.
Currently her artwork can be seen at The Gallery Underground Studios in Old Town Fort Collins.
Herrera's goal is to "accurately express herself through her paintings and to paint with integrity and purpose."
In 2003 Rachel founded the Colorado Coalition of Artists (CoCOA) in Fort Collins, Colorado. CoCOA is an artist’s cooperative offering classes, workshops and studio space. Currently, she is the Executive Director of Fort Collins' Arts Council, Arts Alive Fort Collins.
